More artists are expected to join the lineup in the coming weeks.
Rihanna and Minaj lead the nominees for this year’s fan-voted event, earning four nominations a piece. Also represented among the contenders are Drake, Bieber, Maroon 5, One Direction and Usher. Underwood and Pitbull are each up for two awards.
This year marks the introduction of a new category for Electronic Dance Music. Nominees include David Guetta, Calvin Harris and Skrillex.
‘MADE IN AMERICA’ PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE!
PHILLY, PHILLY!
FYI: Budweiser is teaming up with YouTube and Pandora to live stream its inaugural “Made in America” music festival.
The festival is taking place this weekend — Sept. 1 and 2 — in Philadelphia and will feature major artists from across genres. Headlined by Jay-Z, other artists at the festival include Passion Pit, Mike Snow, Skrillex, The Hives, Rita Ora and Odd Future.

Jay-Z is bringing his ‘Made in America’ festival to the big screen. Jay-Z and Steve Stoute, both co- producers, will work in tandem with Oscar-Awarding winning duo, Ron Howard and Brian Grazer, to document the two-day festival and its 40-plus performers.
“The festival showcases 20 pre-eminent artists that speak to the new generation,” Grazer told the New York Post about the project. “I am producing the film with Steve Stoute and Jay. Ron is directing. It is going to be born through Jay-Z’s perspective… how he puts the event together.”
While Jay-Z has yet to release a statement on the upcoming film, Grazer believes documenting the festival will solidify the Brooklyn-native as the phemon he’s grown to become throughout the ages.
“Jay stayed the king for a very long time… I can’t even begin to explain how he is capable of remaining relevant. He is a phenom, like a musical Michael Jordan.”
‘Made in America’ will be held in Philadelphia on September 1 and 2. As of date, Drake, Pearl Jam, Run-DMC, Skrillex, Rick Ross, Miike Snow, Odd Future and Janelle Monáe are among the top-billers scheduled to perform.

Skrillex and Kanye West have been in the studio together, and according to the EDM star, one of the songs they collaborated on will be featured on the rapper’s “new album.”
In an interview with the Daily Beast, Skrillex confirmed that he had teamed up with ‘Ye saying,”I did some music with Kanye and from what I know, it’s actually going to be the first song on his new album.” Skrillex didn’t specify whether the collaboration will be featured on G.O.O.D. Music’s Sept. 4 release, “Cruel Summer,” or Kanye’s upcoming sixth studio album.
In March, Skrillex told Rolling Stone that he had flown to Las Vegas on West’s private jet, and that the two had worked on a few tracks in their hotel. At this weekend’s Hard Summer Festival in L.A., Skrillex promised that one of the tracks would soon see the light of day.
The electronic hitmaker continues his summer tour at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado tonight (Aug. 9), wrapping up the outing at Jay-Z’s Made in America festival on Sept. 1.

Kids, perhaps you shouldn’t rule out a future career as a DJ. As electronic dance music (EDM) continues to ascend the popular music charts, some of the genre’s biggest names are generating some serious cash along the way.
According to a list compiled by Forbes — the magazine’s first-ever class of “Electronic Cash Kings” — the world’s 10 highest-paid DJs raked in $125 million over the past year. Of course, when you consider that these DJs are now performing at some of the world’s biggest music festivals, gracing the cover of Rolling Stone, walking red carpets and making gossip headlines, it’s no surprise that they are becoming notable celebrities in their own rights.
So how much did these “Electronic Cash Kings” make? Tiesto topped the list $22 million — and an average nightly gross of $250,000 — while Skrillex was named No. 2 with $15 million, followed by the newly defunct Swedish House Mafia with roughly $14 million. Hitmaker David Guetta raked in $13.5 million, thanks in part to his Top 40 hits “Titanium,” featuring Sia, and his collaboration with Nicki Minaj, “Turn Me On.” Meanwhile, “Jersey Shore” star DJ Pauly D surprisingly came in at No. 7 on the list with $11 million. We can’t wait to see what Deadmau5 — No. 6 — will have to say about that addition.

I posted a list of some of the hottest upcoming music festivals yesterday and guess what? At least one of the above DJs is playing a set at each of them! I support the DJ and I salute ALL of these talented guys! xo @RozOonTheGo

Pepsi has unveiled a new multiyear global marketing campaign, complete with a new tagline — “Live for Now” — and commercials featuring the biggest names in music. First up in the campaign is Nicki Minaj, whose 2010 single “Moment for Life” acts as soundtrack for the ad, out May 7.
It’s a deal that will make Minaj a worldwide spokeswoman and also give her enough fodder to fuel two songs’ worth of material on her sophomore album, “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded.
“Nicki has momentum. She’s a maverick,” Frank Cooper, PepsiCo chief marketing officer of global consumer engagement, told Billboard in this week’s cover story. “She represents the kind of artist who’s in the moment, making things happen on her own terms.”
As first reported by Ad Age, Pepsi is also prepping a campaign in mid-May around the 25th-anniversary of Michael Jackson’s “Bad.” Billboard has learned the program will include a series of remixes from superstar DJs — Skrillex, Diplo and A-Trak are among the names mentioned to be connected with the project. The exclusive tracks are set to be accessed through a special Pepsi-can promotion where fans can scan a code with their phone to hear a song.

Wynn Las Vegas upped the ante on Sin City’s high-stakes EDM game this week, announcing 34 artists contracted for exclusive residencies across its four venues (Encore Beach Club, XS, Tryst, and Surrender). The roster includes powerful names like David Guetta, Skrillex and Swedish House Mafia’s Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso, as well as previously announced mega-stars like Tiësto and Deadmau5.
The sheer strength of the line-up gives Wynn a leg-up on its only major local competitor, Strategic Group, which manages the DJ-focused Marquee Nightclub & Dayclub at Cosmopolitan (as well as Lavo at Palazzo, and Tao at The Venetian); and further demonstrates the level of investment casino-hotels are willing to make to lock in lucrative stars, and lock out each other. But regardless of who’s writing the checks, the artists are benefiting.
“The casinos aren’t screwing around,” says Joel Zimmerman, head of William Morris Electronic, which books Wynn residents Afrojack and Deadmau5, and Marquee resident Kaskade. “And it’s not just about the big guys. For an artist on their way up, part of the biggest chore is awareness, and casinos are facilitating that with the money they’re spending on marketing to get the tourists. Guys like Calvin Harris and R3HAB have experienced tremendous growth because of it. It’s a great platform for everybody.”

Radiohead, Phish, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the reunited Beach Boys will head to Manchester, Tenn. this June for the 2012 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. The initial lineup for the annual festival, which takes place from June 7-10 this year, was announced on Tuesday (Feb. 14).
Radiohead will return to the ‘Roo after delivering an epic set at the 2006 version of the festival and releasing “The King of Limbs” last year. Meanwhile, Phish headlined two nights of Bonnaroo in 2009, and closed out 2011 by selling out four straight at New York’s Madison Square Garden from Dec. 28-31.
Red Hot Chili Peppers, who returned in 2011 with a new full-length, “I’m With You,” have planned an expansive North American tour for the spring to support their first album since 2006’s “Stadium Arcadium.” And the Beach Boys will continue the 50th anniversary celebration that they began with a performance at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night, with Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston and David Marks all signed on for Bonnaroo.
Other notable acts at this year’s festival include dubstep phenom Skrillex, Best New Artist Grammy winner Bon Iver, hip-hop heavyweights likeLudacris and the Roots, and a reunited Ben Folds Five. Tickets for the four-day festival go on sale this Saturday at noon via Bonnaroo’s official web site.
