ON-THE-GO: KENDRICK LAMAR PRINCIPAL FOR THE DAY

I love to see any celebrities giving back; especially rappers, since they get such a bad rap in the media. One can only hope that media outlets start reporting stories like these. It’s not ALL bad! Anyway, KL stepped away from his tour for a moment to speak to the students at Mount Pleasant High School on Rhode Island for good attendance. They have a ‘Get Schooled’ program which allowed for Kendrick to serve as principal for the day!

“Without education you don’t have anything,” said Kendrick, who was a 4.0 student at Centennial High School in L.A. and was the first in his family to graduate from high school. “My teachers were great positive influences in my life. My middle school English teacher was probably the reason I became a rapper. He used to encourage me to write poetry and would challenge me, which helped me improve my vocabulary and made me enjoy writing.”

I salute EW for speaking on this situation and I hope that it cleared up some confusion. I agree that Social Media takes things too far and that ‘life is precious and you don’t wish death on anyone.’ I even removed a tweet of mines that my Mentor exclaimed could’ve been taken out of context. You have to watch what you say on these Social Networks; not everyone is looking out for your best interest and things will be taken for what they want to be taken for and not what you meant. I too am happy that Rick Ross is okay. MY opinion: Jealousy is the root of all evil & yep, Hip-Hop needs him. Stop the violence people! xo @RozOonTheGo

VIDEO:  THE TRUTH - DOSE 4 - WHAT MAKES A CLASSIC RAP ALBUM?

So I’ve posted about @ElliottWilson’s ‘THE TRUTH’ series brought to Us by JAY Z’S Life + Times Youtube channel (subscribe) since it launched. In the video above is what I call the 4th dose of THE TRUTH. 

Rapper KENDRICK LAMAR had and still does have the internet going nuts over his latest release ‘Good Kid M.a.a.D City’ and it rubbed some Industry heads the wrong way when people jumped to call the album ‘a classic’. One of my good friends and a well known Core DJ, @DjImpact tweeted his frustrations about all the ‘hype’ behind #GKMC and Of course I responded. I had actually tweeted the night before that I thought it was a classic, but while corresponding with DJ Impact I recanted that (very rare for me) saying, that ‘Maybe I pushed it with [donning] it [#GKMC] with ‘classic’  without living with it, but that I never hyped [the album]’. I have always believed that you have to ‘live with’ an album before calling it wack or before calling it a classic. In the case of #GKMC, like many other Industry heads, I believe we were just so happy to have some GOOD music from an artist with ‘classic’ potential that we allowed that excitement to get to Us a bit; ok, a lot. I never hyped the album, I waited to hear it and I tweeted without thinking; happens to the best of us! I didn’t delete my shit though! Ha! 

After this friendly debate with my homie on twitter, the latest dose of Elliott Wilson’s THE TRUTH hit the net and I happen to agree with him, as usual. You guys would know if I didn’t! By now, you know that I don’t hold much in ;)! So, having said all that, check out the latest from one of the Industry’s greatest! xo @RozOonthego

I’m late I know! I was #onthego yesterday! I finally checked out the 2nd episode of THE TRUTH! @ElliottWilson speaks on Beefs in Hip-Hop .. I agree that beefs are a competitive sport in Hip-Hop but like the YN mentioned I don’t want to see these frequent beefs escalate or to find the Hip-Hop nation experiencing another tragedy like we did with the Notorious B.I.G./Tupac beef. I’ve been in the game over 12 years and I experienced this particular beef first hand, so when I see things getting crazy it shakes me up a bit. I pull out Christopher Wallace’s obituary often and it’s as if it was just yesterday he was taken away. We loss two of Hip-Hop’s best. I’m sure we all can agree that we’d rather see these beefs stay on a record rather than come to life in the streets. Like Elliott Wilson, I realize that I have a voice and a responsibility to not fuel any of these Hip-Hop beefs and I won’t.
