#NWTS Review: Pitchfork

"Really I think I like who I’m becoming," Drake told us cautiously on his second album Take Care. On its followup Nothing Was the Same, he’s thought about it some more.”Prince Akeem, they throw flowers at my feet, nigga!” he screams. “I could go an hour on this beat, nigga!” The song, “Tuscan Leather”, which opens the record, is six full minutes long with no chorus, a point Drake is eager for us to absorb: “This is nothing for the radio/ But they’ll still play it though/ Cuz it’s the new Drizzy Drake, that’s just the way it go.”

"The Drake Era has ended; welcome to the Drake Regime. Aubrey Graham’s gone from an unlikely rapper to an accepted rapper to maybe the biggest rapper out, all in four years, and he’s the genre’s biggest current pop crossover star. Kanye has, for the moment, stepped out of the pop-radio wars, which means that Drake currently has no meaningful competition. On Nothing Was the Same, he acts accordingly— the mansion doors swing shut behind you and he mostly stops pretending to be nice. “I’m on my worst behavior,” he leers, over a glowering low-end synth and an insectile battery of defaced-sounding percussion, courtesy of DJ Dahi. It’s the meanest-sounding thing Drake has rapped over, and he matches it with some of his angriest lyrics, a series of sputtered “muhfuckas never loved us” surrounding an extended riff on Ma$e’s verse on “Mo Money Mo Problems”.”

KENDRICK LAMAR Before The Release: PitchFork

I just came across the below interview on Pitchfork’s website. I felt like I knew the kid K. Dot a LOT more afterwards. Check it out and see more here! xo @RozOonThego

Pitchfork: You recently faced a backlash after saying that you don’t vote because there’s something else out there pushing the buttons.” How did you interpret that whole situation?

Kendrick Lamar: I’m a person of my own opinions, that’s how I was raised. I speak what I feel. The world is bigger than us, and I’m the only person that said that. A lot of people feel the same way but they’re scared to talk. They’re really scared of the truth— they only want half of the truth. I’ve been living like that— forever in fear— but I know what to say and how to say it now. I ain’t scared of myself. Y’all may be scared; I’m not scared.

Pretty Dope Interview With DOMO GENESIS: ODD FUTURE

I came across this interview on and as usual, thought I’d share! xo @RozOonTheGo

The Odd Future rapper talks about his love of Kanye West, why the green Power Ranger made him cry, affectionate French fans, his worst nightmare, and more.

My Dream Tattoo

I’m never gonna get it, but I always wanted a tattoo that says: “This is my tattoo.” I told my mom that and she flipped the fuck out. Right now, I have the ghost and the star from Super Mario on my left arm, and then on my right arm I have a Bible scripture that says, “For what has a man profited if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul?” On the back of my arm I have a dove… peace and shit.

Dream Collaboration

All I really want is a beat from Kanye West. I’ve met him and I think he’s real cool with us. If I get that beat, I’m going to rap the best verse I ever dropped— even if it’s his worst beat.

In KREAYSHAWN NEWS: For Those Who Care…..

Kreayshawn will release her full-length debut, Somethin Bout Kreay, this summer. A video for the project’s lead single “Breakfast,” featuring 2 Chainz, is expected for next month. The odd couple have worked together before, on “Murder” from 2 Chainz’ T.R.U. Realigion mixtape. The video for that collaboration, long teased, remains unreleased.

Somethin Bout Kreay will feature production by German dance DJ Boys Noize“Gucci Gucci” architect DJ Two Stacks and AXE spokesperson Diplo. Of her decision to hire the producer, Kreayshawn told Pitchfork, “I know Diplo knows a lot about underground music culture… He was one of the people to put me onto music like that when I used to listen to the Mad Decent Mixes. It was like, Oh, he knows what I want.’”

Earl has, at long last, been freed. Earl Sweatshirt, the long-MIA member of Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All, played his first concert alongside the rap collective since the group’s mainstream ascent last year.

Hours after conducting an interview with New York’s Hot 97, the 18-year-old MC — who disappeared from the group last year after his “Earl” video became a viral hit — joined Tyler, The Creator, Hodgy Beats, Domo Genesis and the rest of the OF gang at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom on Tuesday night (Mar. 20). According to Pitchfork, Sweatshirt came onstage midway through the group’s set and ran through songs like “Orange Juice,” “Kill” and “Earl.”

Later in the show, Odd Future-affiliated crooner Frank Ocean also hit the stage and performed “Goblin” standout “She” alongside Tyler. The show reportedly ended with a posse-encompassing rendition of “Oldies.”

The performance celebrated the release of “The OF Tape Vol. 2,” out Tuesday on new label Odd Future Records. The group’s new Adult Swim show, “Loiter Squad,” was previewed at the concert, and will premiere on Sunday (Mar. 25).
