Jimmy Iovine was the guest commencement speaker at the 2013 USC General Commencement. JI introduced Dr. Dre during the ceremony. So what’s the connection between the University of Southern California and these two Moguls? Well, I recently posted about the two donating $70 million to USC to form the Iovine And Young Academy. I salute them both! Check out the video and read up on the previous post. Congrats to the entire Class of 2013! xo @rozOonTheGo

Yes! Dr. Dre + Jimmy Iovine Donate $70 Million!

Dr. Dre and one of my former bosses - Jimmy Iovine gave a ‘gift’ of $70 Million Dollars to USC for Arts Academy. With the funds the University of Southern California are set to establish a four-year undergraduate program for students interested in a mix of arts, visual design, entrepreneurship, computer science and marketing. I’m screaming, why didn’t they have a program like this when I went to college?! We were stuck trying to create this mix by taking ‘Mass Communications’, ‘Business Management’, ‘Marketing’ and ‘Computer Science’. That was my case anyways.

So, you kids are very lucky! If your a creative looking to work in Entertainment then you know just how important this is! I’m going to speak to the guys about being a professor! I’m qualified! The 'Iovine and Young Academy' will focus on four core subjects: arts and entrepreneurship; technology, design and marketability; concept and business platforms and creating prototype.

"The vision and generosity of Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young will profoundly influence the way all of us perceive and experience artistic media," university President C. L. Max Nikias said. "USC provides an extraordinarily rich academic, research and artistic environment. We are committed to encouraging our students to use their intellectual and creative resources to effect change in all segments of society. Our goal is to ensure that the academy is the most collaborative educational program in the world."

I salute these two gentlemen and it doesn’t surprise me at all. Having worked near them and sat in meetings with J.I. I know that this is something that they did from the heart and with great intentions.

BEATS BY DRE Parting Ways with MONSTER:

As Beats By Dre prepares to sever ties with Monster Cable Products, Interscope chairman and Beats co-founder Jimmy Iovine has plans for further expansion into other entertainment arenas. With Beats technology already on Hewlett-Packard laptops and PCs, in Chrysler’s 300 S sedan and the 2012 Dodge Charger as well as on HTC smartphones ( HTC purchased a $300 million majority stake in the company last August, Iovine left this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas with a call to arms for the consumer electronics industry.

"You’re only as good as your weakest link in the ecosystem of sound, of audio," Iovine told shortly after touching down at LAX on Friday. "In the music industry, we have lost an entire generation to bad sound…We want PC makers to have better audio, because these things are used as home stereos by a lot of people and that makes it suck."

Iovine says there’s no bad blood between Beats and Monster, and in fact just saw Monster CEO Noel Lee in Vegas Thursday night. “It was cool, it was social,” Iovine said. “We had a few business things that you have when you work with a guy for five years. But we’ve grown so fast we have to be nimble, to control our own destiny. It was always structured that way.”

He noted that Monster played no part in the Chrysler, HTC or HP deals, and that Beats will act as its own manufacturer going forward. NPD group recently valued Beats as accounting for more than half of the $1 billion headphone market in 2011, which would place their product sales in the $500 million range. Iovine says the company will focus on staffing up in 2012 while actively talking to other potential partners and device manufacturers.

Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine Unveil New Beats by Dre Models in NYC:

On Tuesday (Oct. 11) afternoon, Beats Electronics principals Dr. Dre, Jimmy Iovine and Luke Wood, along with Monster Cable Products’ Noel Lee, gathered before the media in a sleek Manhattan showroom to present the “Beats Holiday ‘11 Product Showcase.” Bathed in dramatic red lighting, the four showed videos and spoke about their coming new products (not surprisingly, Iovine did almost all of the talking; Dre barely said a word.).

During the conversation, which was hosted by MTV News’ Sway, three new products were unveiled: New colors for the standard headphones — pink, orange, purple, blue and grey ($350, due in stores next week); a Beats Wireless Solo Bluetooth model (due next month, no price yet); the “Portable Beat Box,” with built-in bluetooth; and special DJ headphones (both due for the holidays, no price yet). They also announced a Beats by Dr. Dre pop-up store, which will be located on Mercer Street in Manhattan and will be open through the holiday season.

So, one of my favorite times of the year when working for IGA (Interscope Geffen A&M Records) was when it came time to plan for our Annual Creme of the Crop dinner! This year & every year; it took place immediately after the BET Awards and was hosted by IGA executives Jimmy Iovine and Ron Fair at Mr. Chows in Beverly Hills. The event was attended by my former co-workers, several music industry executives and tastemakers, and of course a guest list full of Major Recording artists. Following this post I will put up some pictures from the successful night. Enjoy! xoxo Roz-O!
