“Far from the richest rapper, but my biggest personal achievement thus far in my life has been retiring my mom early from her job at the Post Office. It’s a tiny payback for the sacrifices she made that allowed me to chase a far-fetched dream of becoming a successful artist. I’m forever grateful.” – J. Cole
“I don’t have to deliver mail anymore! It just hit me.” - Kay Cole

I L-O-V-E LOVE this! To celebrate his June 25th ‘Born Sinner’ release J. Cole is launching a weekly conceptual series where he’ll honor the people who have been most influential in his life. Rolling Stone has exclusive photos from this series. This Mother’s Day week, Cole spotlights his mother, Kay Cole, who he was able to retire! Kay Cole is a military veteran (salute) who spent her career working for the Post Office. Well, thanks to her son, she no longer has to deliver mail. What a blessing! I #salute J. Cole! xo @rozOonTheGo

Ok, so I heard nothing but great things about BIG SEAN tearing the house down during a performance in his hometown of Detroit at the Palace of Auburn Hills! The tweets painted the perfect visual, but I know it’s nothing like being there! I missed this one because I was #onTheGo in the studio fine-tuning a Spring 2013 release for a pretty relevant recording artist ;). Nonetheless, I wish I could’ve made this. The guest performers ranged from J. Cole, Common to Kanye West! Above check out a few pictures from backstage, to soundcheck to actual performances; even one with his Mommy ;) courtesy of Billboard! xo @RozOonThego

Big Sean Speaks:

“It was definitely an emotional rollercoaster,” Big Sean noted afterwards — so much so that he broke into tears during “Memories,” sitting down on the stage for a minute to compose himself. “I’m not faking it, man,” he told the crowd, while after the show he recalled that, “I felt these tears coming and I was like, ‘Oh, hell no, man. Don’t do it man!’ But I couldn’t help it. It was just a human emotion.”

The 24-year-old MC’s fans certainly felt it, boosting him with chants of “Big Sean!” while he got himself back together.

J. Cole told Billboard on the red carpet at the 2012 American Music Awards that he wanted to “change the conversation” in mainstream hip-hop with the release of the hard-hitting single “Miss America” last week. The lead track off his forthcoming sophomore album, “Born Sinner,” is an admitted risk for the Roc Nation rapper, but one that he felt was necessary for the progression of his career.

“We have a responsibility and a certain power that comes with making the music and playing the music, and that comes with a responsibility to keep things fresh, and not to fall into the mold of what’s traditional,” says Cole. “I have singles that fall into that [mold], but if I can use my power in some kind of way, I’m going to try to use it to shift culture just a little bit.”

“Born Sinner” and its Jan. 28, 2013 release date were announced online earlier this month, although the follow-up to his 2011 debut “Cole World: The Sideline Story” may be hitting stores after that date, which doubles as the rapper’s birthday. “In a perfect world, I’ll shoot for January 28,” says Cole, “but even when I released that, honestly I knew that was very far-fetched.”
