USA Basketball Announces 2014-16 Roster!

Team USA will be a little bit bigger this year. USA Basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski and chairman Jerry Colangelo “announced a 28-man roster of NBA players to build the U.S. men’s basketball team around the next three years. The roster likely will provide the pool of players for the 2014 World Cup of Basketball in Spain and the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics.”

"The roster itself is the strongest roster we’ve ever had," Colangelo said. "The excitement for coach and me is how we’ve brought these players through our infrastructure through the years."

So, who made the cut? I’ll give you a few: Kyrie Irving (Cleveland Cavaliers), Chris Paul (Los Angeles Clippers), Derrick Rose (Chicago Bulls), James Harden (Houston Rockets), Kyle Korver (Atlanta Hawks), Carmelo Anthony (New York Knicks), LeBron James (Miami Heat), Blake Griffin (Los Angeles Clippers), Tyson Chandler (New York Knicks), and DeMarcus Cousins (Sacramento Kings). Chris Paul on why he likes being short / playing point guard:
"I’ve been fortunate to be short my entire life. There’s only one position I’ve ever had to play, and that’s point guard. So I’ve always had to be that leader. And that was my job: you know, to talk. I’m a big-time people person, too. Like, I love people. I hate to be by myself."
On why he doesn’t talk trash:
"I feel like I’ve worked so hard to get good. I’m expected to score on you."
On building a fan base and helping make them part of his life:
“I realize that I’m not going to be doing interviews for the cover of GQ for the rest of my life, know what I mean? I’m on TV because I play basketball really well. But when all this is over with—say something crazy happens, God forbid, and I can’t perform anymore. All those people that were in there? They’re still gonna be there.”

VERDICT? USA WINS! 107-100

FINAL 12-MAN ROSTER: USA BASKETBALL (LONDON GAMES)

USA Basketball announced the 12-man roster Saturday evening; naming who’ll represent the USA at this summer’s London Olympics.

Who made the Final Cut? James Harden, Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony, Tyson Chandler, Blake Griffin, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Kevin Love and Andre Iguodala.

With a handful of players, including Derrick Rose, Dwight Howard, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, withdrawing from consideration because of injuries, 10 of the roster slots appeared to be locked up heading into Friday’s start of training camp, leaving five players – Harden, Iguodala, Anthony Davis, Rudy Gay and Eric Gordon – to compete for the final two openings. The absence of Howard, Bosh and LaMarcus Aldridge has left Team USA with a shortage of big men. Davis, the top overall pick for the New Orleans Hornets in last week’s NBA draft, was a candidate, but sprained his ankle during a workout a week ago.

Team USA will play an exhibition against the Dominican Republic on July 12 in Las Vegas. The U.S. also will play exhibitions in Washington, D.C.; Manchester, England; and Barcelona, Spain; before arriving in London.

Team USA opens the Olympics against France on July 29.

Good Luck guys! GO USA!

Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony latest to look at foreign offers:

HONG KONG — Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony say they will consider offers to play professional basketball in China if there is no resolution to the NBA lockout.

Both players are on a promotional tour of China while monitoring news from home about the NBA’s labor impasse.

With Kobe Bryant reportedly negotiating a deal to play in Turkey, New Orleans Hornets’ Paul and New York Knicks forward Anthony said they were also considering overseas moves.

Asked by SNTV where they would go, Anthony replied “China.” Paul said “Same, no question.”

The answers may have been designed to compliment their hosts, but Anthony added, “It’s a lot of history here, the fans are great; why not, why not try it out?”
