B.o.B is doing his best to ensure no sophomore slump comes his way with an all-star lineup of features for his upcoming disc, “Strange Clouds.” Revealed via Instagram on Monday afternoon (Apr. 9), the album calls upon stars from both the music world (T-Swift!) and film world (Morgan Freeman?) to make appearances on his upcoming album.
On the music side, the Atlanta rapper boasts music features from R&B stars ( Chris Brown, Trey Songz), singer/songwriters (Lauriana Mae), pop ( Ryan Tedder), fellow rappers ( T.I., Playboy Tre, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne on the title track), and even giving a nod to the country genre with Taylor Swift on the track “Both Of Us.” But perhaps the most interesting feature is opening the album with Morgan Freeman on the track “Bombs Away.”
His debut record, “B.o.B. Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray,” topped the Billboard 200 in 2010 and featured other huge names like Bruno Mars, Hayley Williams and Rivers Cuomo. “Strange Clouds” arrives May 1 and includes the hit title track featuring Lil Wayne and his follow-up single, “So Good.”
In three years, Diggy Simmons has gone from notebooks to mixtapes to now working on his debut album, “Unexpected Arrival” (March 20).
“It was just more so about me getting out my feelings through writing,” says the 16 yr. old rapper of his start. “That’s when I started loving it so much. I was like, ‘Man this is what I want to do.’ That’s when I took it to the next level and I started actually recording myself.”
It’s cheeky, but an apt title definitely. Before he started spitting, Diggy could be seen on MTV’s “Run’s House,” as the middle child of hip-hop legend, Run D.M.C.’s Joseph “Rev Run” Simmons. While it’s easy to doubt or cry out “nepotism” in this scenario, the fact is Diggy’s arrival is a result of his own hard work and growth.
“It’s me taking everything that I’ve done to the next level,” Diggy says of “Unexpected Arrival.” “Lyrically, everything with the production, all the content, all my experiences — it’s just way better than everything I’ve ever done.”
Both his mixtapes and freestyles, including his early freestyle to Nas’ “Made You Look” — have been training and proving ground. Diggy garnered plenty of attention which lead to collaborations with the likes ofBruno Mars, Lupe Fiasco, and Pharrell Williams.
Gym Class Heroes and J. Cole will help kick off NBA All-Star Game festivities on Sunday, Feb. 26 with a pregame concert that will air live from Orlando, Fla. on NBA TV.
The Sprint Pregame Concert will feature Gym Class Heroes performing their latest single, “Ass Back Home” (or its edited version, “Get Yourself Back Home”), while Cole will run through his “Cole World” cuts “Work Out” and “Can’t Get Enough.” Also performing at the event are “The Sing-Off” champions Pentatonix and R&B newcomer Kayla Brianna.
Last year’s NBA All-Star pregame concert offered performances by Bruno Mars and Keri Hilson, among others. This year’s presume show will air live at 5:00 p.m. EST on NBA TV before the All-Star Game gets underway at 7 p.m. on TNT.
More All-Star Game performers are expected to be announced later this week. Nicki Minaj — who has already debuted a pair of new songs, “Roman Holiday” and “Starships,” this week — is believed to be involved in this year’s festivities in Orlando.
