Unpacking a slew of hits for all of Hollywood to see, Katy Perry kicked off Pepsi and Billboard’s “Summer Beats” live series with a special performance on Thursday night (June 26). Perry’s eight-song set was delivered as part of the U.S. premiere event for her revealing new Paramount Pictures film, “Katy Perry: Part of Me,” which hits theaters on July 5.
“Hollywood, I’m gonna be your teenage dream tonight!” Perry told the raucous crowd on Hollywood Boulevard before launching into the title track of her best-selling sophomore album. Sporting a top that resembled an unspooled film reel, Perry emerged from a giant box of popcorn and strutted around a stage that sparkled with neon lights, overgrown lollipops and more-than-game backup dancers.
Prior to the performance, the singer talked about the filming of “Katy Perry: Part of Me,” which chronicles her rise to fame as well as her California Dreams world tour in 2011. “I hope that it inspires people to absolutely live out their dreams, no matter what obstacles they might face,” said Perry.
