With his solo debut album LongLiveA$AP set to drop on September 11, A$AP Rocky has more eyes on him than perhaps any other young rapper, which explains why his recent brush with the police found its way onto headlines across the internet. Milk Made caught up with the Harlem MC on the set of the latest A$AP Mob music video “Acid” – which the self-proclaimed “flyest motherfucker” is also co-directing – to talk about the cost of fame, his other upcoming album with the Mob crew and the secret to pleasing a woman.
Milk Made: How did you get into directing?
A$AP Rocky: It was just one of those natural things. I didn’t know what I was really doing, I was just doing it – like fuck it. Personally, I think it was one of my gifts. It was like one of these things that you just stumble upon that just becomes amazing and beautiful.
RIHANNA + DRAKE Lead the MTV Video Awards Nominations!
The 2012 MTV Video Music Awards nominations are out, and Rihanna and Drake are leading the pack with five nods each. Last year’s big winner Katy Perry isn’t far behind, with four nominations.
Rihanna has two chances to win for Video of the Year: she’s nominated both for her hit “We Found Love” and for her duet with Drake, “Take Care.” Others in the category include Katy Perry, who took home the top prize “Firework” last year and is up this year for “Wide Awake”; Gotye for his Hot 100 champ “Somebody That I Used To Know”; and M.I.A. for her comeback single “Bad Girls.”
Another stacked category is the Best New Artist showdown, which features a pair of boy bands (One Direction and The Wanted), two Hot 100 toppers (fun. and Carly Rae Jepsen), and R&B It guy Frank Ocean, whose Odd Future compatriot, Tyler, The Creator, took the prize last year. Ocean’s “Swim Good” will compete with Justin Bieber’s “Boyfriend,” Drake’s ‘Take Care,” Chris Brown’s “Turn Up The Music” and Usher’s “Climax” in the R&B-heavy Best Male Video category (and yes, Drizzy and Breezy will square off in that one once again).

The Hangover Part II grossed more than $500 million worldwide, an impressive feat for a movie that basically took the screenplay for Hangover Part I and added “…but this time in Bangkok” to the end of every sentence. A third Hangover film will arrive next May, and Legendary Pictures has released the first promotional image for the threequel on the franchise’s Facebook page.

Boy bands ruled the childhoods of many, especially through out the late ’90s, early ’00s. Within R&B realm there was the inception of B2K, the reconfiguration of Immature into IMX and the short-lived, but impactful success of groups such as 3rd Storee and B5. But, now that we’re gradually progressing towards an age where questions such as “Who’s B2K?” are prone to arise, where are the R&B boy groups of today? Thanks to the creativity and intelligence of Lady Gaga's manager, Vincent Herbert, and A&R, Walter Millsap, the boy band has been resurrected in the form of Mindless Behavior.
The quartet, who recently careened their ‘#1 Girl Tour’ into New York City’s Beacon Theater on July 14, has achieved an abundance of success in a short amount of time. Their studio debut, “#1 Girl,” peaked at No. 2 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and No. 7 on the Billboard 200 late last year. The constant demand and dedication of their fans known as Team Mindless has sent them on nationwide tours, resulting in their Coca-Cola’s Viewers Choice Award win at the 2012 BET Awards.
But, with all of their achievements, these teenage boys are far from big-headed. “We have a great camp around us,” the 15 year-old Ray Ray tells Billboard’s The Juice. “Conjunction Entertainment. They make sure we stay grounded. They keep us very level-headed. We keep each other very level-headed, too. We don’t want to become big headed at all. You have to be nice to everyone.”
Panthers WR STEVE SMITH Donates $100,000 to Colorado Shooting Survivors:
Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith is donating $100,000 to help the survivors of the movie-theater shooting in Colorado pay for medical expenses.
Smith didn’t know any of the victims of the July 20 shooting in Aurora, which left 12 people dead and 58 injured. But the news hit home because he says his oldest son Peyton was at a similar midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Returns” in Charlotte that same night.
Smith said the thought of losing one of his family members was frightening and was moved to do something to help.
MICHELLE OBAMA Tells Team USA to Have Fun 'But Also Win!'
"Beyond proud" is how Michelle Obama told U.S. Olympians she felt while meeting with them on Friday morning, as the world awaits the evening’s opening ceremony for the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Over breakfast at an east London sports center with some of Team USA – including women’s basketball players, fencing competitors and members of the track and field squad – the First Lady praised the inspiration they provide to those watching back home.
"Some of my fondest memories growing up and as an adult involve watching the Olympics on TV," Mrs. Obama told them. "My family would sit together for hours watching these men and women perform feats of endurance speed that would have us cheering at the top of our lungs."
She added, “My brother and I would dream about how maybe one day we might be able to achieve something just as great for ourselves.”
Deadmau5 is turning his attention from the laptop to the fashion world. The EDM DJ launched his first official clothing line with Neff Headwear today, July 25.
The jazzy and punk Neffmau5 collection includes co-branded tees, hats and hoodies. The signature line marks the first installment of a two-year creative collaboration between two of the most influential forces in their respective industries.
The line will feature a combination of Deadmau5’s iconic mau5head and Neff’s hallmark Suckerface design.
"I love the street and snowboard scene," Deadmau5 told Billboard.com. "The people involved are the people I see at my shows, so it made sense to hook up with a cool company like Neff to work on a collaboration. Plus it was easy to put ears on the Neff face for an instantly legit logo, right?"
Shaun Neff, the brand’s founder and CEO, is equally excited about the collaboration, stating: “We think Neffmau5 perfectly expressed the combined energy of our two brands and we hope a new army of new consumers will agree.”
The Neffmau5 collection will be available at a variety of retail and online outlets.
