Kanye West and Jay-Z's collaboration has five nominations at this year's ceremony, including Best Group, Best Collaboration and two nominations for Video of the Year (“N***as in Paris” and “Otis”). (West earned solo nominations for Best Director and Best Collaboration, giving him seven overall nods.)
But the regal rappers’ project comes second to Beyonce, who scored six nominations, including Best Female R&B Artist.
Ceremony host Samuel L. Jackson appeared via video at Tuesday’s nominations announcement, which saw A$AP Rocky, Big Sean, Melanie Fiona and others reveal the slate of nominees.
In the first round of announced performers, this year’s ceremony will see appearances from Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown, as well as a tribute to the late Whitney Houston.
The BET Awards will air July 1 from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. View the complete nominees list below:
TAYLOR SWIFT Donates $4 Milli to Country Hall of Fame!
Taylor Swift has taught a generation of kids to appreciate country music over the last five years. Now, she’s donating $4 million to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum to make sure that education continues.
The gift is the largest given to the museum by an artist and is the second largest from an individual, officials said. It will fund the Taylor Swift Education Center, an exhibit and classroom space scheduled to open in 2014.
"In terms of what it will allow us to do, we do education very well now," museum director Kyle Young said. "It will allow us to do what we do better, serve more people, develop new programs and I’m happy to say that as we talked through this opportunity with Taylor, she very much wants to be involved in an advisory capacity in what we do. Is there a better person out there who’s in touch with a young audience? I think not. I was joking we should be paying her to do that. I was only joking."
The new education center is part of the museum’s $75 million “Working on a Building” expansion project that will increase the space more than 200,000 square feet to 350,000. The expansion is part of the new convention center project in downtown Nashville and will include a new concert theater, more room for exhibits and archives, and a shared entrance with a new hotel.

With a Grammy and a No. 1 album already under his belt, Brown will be performing less than two months before his fifth studio album, “Fortune,” drops on July 3. KATY PERRY Wants a 'F---ing Vacation' After Next Single!
KATY PERRY has been a very busy pop star over the past two years, scoring five Hot 100 No. 1s off her 2010 effort “Teenage Dream” and another topper in February with “Part of Me,” off the “Complete Confection” collection. She’ll try to do it again with “Wide Awake,” which hits radio later this month.
"I swear, after this song, I’m taking a fucking vacation," Perry said following her acceptance speech for artist of the year the NARM Music Awards on Thursday (May 10).
The mid-tempo “Wide Awake,” written expressly for her “Part of Me 3D” movie hitting theaters July 5, is the second single off “Complete Confection.” At NARM, Perry went out of her way to thank the music industry for helping her succeed, but she also allowed some of the credit to land on her.
"I have to say that I do a lot to sell my records," she said with a smile. "I do the right things… I work very hard! I like to sell out in all the best ways."
Perry, who began her music career as a Christian artist, relayed a story about growing up not being able to listen to secular music — her parents are ministers — and recalled when she first decided she wanted to be “what I am today.”
I wasn’t allowed to listen to secular music, so every time I would go over to my friends house I would make them turn on MTV real quick. And one of my friends… one day pulled out a record, a song in particular called “Killer Queen” by Queen.
